Prelude And Fugue For Strings by Shawn Beard (2005-02-27)
MidiEngine: That`d be me. Sequencer: Cakewalk Gold 8.0. MidiFont: Sonic Implants. For the Theme Contest, this piece is Part 1 of 2, the Prelude (subtitled "Ruach Adonai") to the rather meaty fugue that follows. How meaty? LOL, depends on whether or not I can start it tomorrow night in time for the end of the Contest. For those of you who are forbidden to eat pork or throw a football, feel free to Google the subtitle. Then try not to weep too hard while the music reminds you of somebody that you love and miss (someone else's suggestion, not mine). You can use Merlin dot something, but the mp3 is outstanding, and well worth the wait for download. No memory was used during the construction of this piece, this day Sunday, February 27th, 2005. Enjoy the dissonances!

The Chase by Dave Lamothe (2007-01-27)
MidiEngine: X-Fi. Sequencer: Sonar and Sibelius. MidiFont: Anything with good single string sounds. The rhythmic and melodic themes of the intro spurned this whole thing. I used a different approach here by writing the lead melodic line all the way through to a rough chord progression and filling in the rhythmic, melodic, and structural blanks later. It's all about a chase, but not necessarily an angry hunt;but a bit obsessive just the same.

String Quartet In A Major: I. Allegro by Brandon Bijan Homayouni (2005-04-29)
This is the first movement of my String Quartet in A. I do not consider it as pastiche. These are MY true feelings.

Happy Birthday To Me & Me by Shawn Beard (2006-03-20)
MidiEngine: -. Sequencer: -. MidiFont: GM will do, tho` Merlin would do better. "HapHappy" Inspired by the rather lovely Happy Birthday variations included in this month's contest... and of course, inspired also by the original birthday boy for whom this was written. Mum's the word if you know this ditty... and can appreciate the Chopin irony herein.

G# Avotte In A Minor by Christopher M. Carlson (2005-12-19)
MidiEngine: SB. Sequencer: CW. MidiFont: 2MBGMGS. I wrote this one in 2002. A few notes about the title. Is it a gavotte? Nope, I have no idea what a gavotte is other than its a dance. Is it in A minor? Yes. Why do I call it a gavotte? Well, I have no formal music training, so my knowledge of music is limited. I knew this was in A minor but for some reason I had a tendency to throw in a G# note (not sharped in the normal A minor scale) all throughout the piece. So I picked a classical dance form that started with the letter G at random to account for this anomaly (I later learned that I was simply employing the harmonic A minor scale, which easily explained the G#) Geesh. My ignorance knows no bounds. Anyway, I hope you enjoy this classical dance piece, whatever form it is in.

Flute Quartet In C - 1st Movement by Shawn Beard (2004-10-10)
MidiEngine: my very own neurons!. Sequencer: Sessions by Midisoft. MidiFont: Merlin WXP 2.1. A little fun with the quartet form. Can you say "false cadence"? I have yet to try this on the newer soundfonts, but I recommend this one: Merlin WXP 2.1- this seems to work best for balancing (to my ear, at least). But by all means, try it on anything you like. Just remember to use Concert Hall reverb - my virtual guys aren't in a living room, you know. Wait, yes they are...
