ORCHESTRAL, CLASSICAL, CINEMATIC

Requiem For Amber (6K) XG format.

Category: Classical
Equipment: Cubasis sequencer (I'm poor), XGEdit editor, Yamaha (XG ) PSR 530 keyboard synth (listeners may need the Yamaha SoftSynth plug-in to hear the song as it is). Cheap headphones and RCA surround sound system for reference.

DaBull (73K1), GM.

The following were used in the production of this tune:

Roland FP-8 digital piano, GI-10/GK-2A (guitar/midi interface and pickup), Alesis SR-16 drum machine, AWE64 Gold w/16 megs RAM (I used a 8meg GM sound font), and a Zion Electric/MIDI Guitar. I used the midi guitar during the guitar intro and placed each string on a different track for a more realistic guitar sound. I also used the guitar on many of the string and brass parts which worked out real nice. I then cleaned up the pitch bend data.....which was a REAL pain to do but worth the trouble.

Face of the Moon (10K5), GM

Category: orchestra
Equipment: SB Live 8MB GM soundfont
Midi keyboard, Cakewalk HS 3.01

Little March (27K), GM

All of my midi's were composed with the ENCORE music compositions program. I have a SB 64 AWE Gold card at work and a regular SB card at home. I occasionally use the card's midi sounds, but found great differences in how the music sounds on various computers. I often play it safe for the sake of consistency to stick with the GRAND PIANO sound.

Shy Guy (28K), GM

Saved in General midi format 1 with cakewalk 9 software. SBLive soundcard with any soundfont bank, which has reasonable piano sounds.

I made this one about one year ago to my friend. He asked me to make a piano intro, i liked it so much that i continued to the end; and there it was : the whole tune. The whole tune is made with computer , i cannot play piano so well.

Meet Me Half Way (55K), GM

Description: A hypnotic, nomadic journey through distant lands.  An orchestrated composition paying tribute to the classic epic soundtrack.

I compose music with Cakewalk software, an Awe 64 Gold Soundcard, a Roland SCC-1 Soundcard, and a Roland JV-1010 Synthesizer Module.

Bach Style (7K6), GM

Chocolate Ponies And Icecream Castle, (10K), GM

I don't know if I'm THAT good, but my mom calls me her little Mozart.  :)

Entropy, Op. 125 (63K), GM - May 18

Sorry to wreck the grade curve people, but this is the greatest piece of music written since Beethoven's ninth. Bow before me, for I am your God. Sequenced with Cannabis 4.0. Sounds best with lots and lots of LSD in your system. Author: The Mad Scientist

Chocolate Gerbils (16K5), GM - May 20

I'm a hot composer from the Manhattan area. I just graduated from Julliard.  I want to write for Broadway musical theater but they just don't understand my music.  I hope u like my music.  I wrote this piece with Finale 2001. It took me two weeks. It's GM so it sounds good on anyone's sound card.

Goblin Mountain (32K), GM - May 20

Fantasy/Classical

Composed using Cakewalk HS9, a Yamaha PSR-520 (GM) synth. Intended for a friend's game for a mountainous area. Attempt at a celtic theme written with intent to loop back to beginning.

Neta 11 (25K), GM - May 20

Here's my entry for the May contest...Neta. I've been working on it for ages, be careful of the last 10 seconds as it comes out very loud on some speakers.
It is to go in Classical category.

Last Journey (42K5), GM - May 23

After an entire life, the man undertakes his last trip heading for the unknown Hades, in the boat driven by Caronte in search of peace. The mystery, the funereal march and the vision of the hope render in his last journey.

Fever Dreams (30K), GM - May 25

Category: Classical
This is a solo piano piece, somewhat "impressionistic" in nature. I've used motif material to a greater extent than thematic material in an attempt to create cohesiveness. Still, I doubt this would be for all tastes - Strange juxtaposition, surreality, alien logic and rapidly shifting textures combine to create a warped menacing delirium and what I hope is a sort of "panicky" feeling toward the end.

Once Upon a Time, op.47 (23K3), GM - May 30

Comments:   Composed with Cakewalk Express and the mouse.

Mixed with SB Live using 8MB emu sound font set on concert hall & 4 speaker surround sound.

Percussion (24K7), GM - May 31

Please enter my MIDI, The Happy Percussion, into your contest.  Please put it in the ORCHESTRAL, CLASSICAL, CINEMATIC category.

This song shows what could happen if you got too many percussionists together, and they all went a little crazy.  This song was composed only by myself, my acoustic piano (for the bell parts), my mouse, and my music software.

The Assault (17K), GM - May 31

Here is my song called The Assault. It is about getting stabbed on the way to school and it happens all the time cause these guys really dont like the guy much so they keep on sneeking up on him and stabbing him all the time and it hurts!
I think you can feel the anger and the pain and all of the emotion in it. You can hear the organ as the knife. I hope you like it because it took me a long time to do.

Valse Romantique (24K), GM - May 31 almost midnight...

Piece description: This piece was composed for piano and sequenced as a midi . It is dedicated to my great aunt Ruth and oncle Ross, married for over 50 years.

Pájaro Del Fuego (94K), GM - May 31.1

Piece description: This piece sounds like a cross between a phoenix and a long journey to me. A fitting image, suggested by a friend, for the piece is a person traveling to find the mythical bird.

BAND, ROCK, TECHNO

Killing Time (49K7) GM format.

Category: Rock

All composing done in Guitar Pro v3.1 No MIDI Keyboard/s were used in the process.

The Percussions need to be improved,  I didn't have time to work on it now, so I submit it "as it is".  Also few other bugs, but I still want it in the Contest as it is! ;)

I have a SoundBlaster LIVE! 1024, used the 8mb Soundfont that's included on the CD shipped with the soundcard.

Phantome (26K), GM.

Details: sequenced using Massiva X0.61 Freeware, soundcard Sound Blaster 128 PCI Creative, 4 Mb
Location: Moscow, RUSSIA.
Short Description: a rock composition from a rock-suite, with pulsing intro and some prog-rock elements. Category: Rock

Phoebe (27K), GM.

It is called Phoebe, it is named after my daughter.

This tune was created using Cakewalk 6.0 and a Creative Awe soundcard. The writing of this piece was pretty organic. It grew from the central theme, which I came up with one night on my Evolution keyboard, and which is heard in the song 3 times (slightly differently each time). I then created 2 other bits which seem to go with the central theme, but give the whole piece a bit more interest and body. A friend of mine said it reminds him of the music of Ben Folds Five, which was exactly the feel I was looking for when creating the piece.

Two Faced (60K1), GM

The following were used in the production of this tune:

Roland FP-8 digital piano, GI-10/GK-2A (guitar/midi interface and pickup), Alesis SR-16 drum machine, AWE64 Gold w/16 megs RAM (I used a 8meg GM sound font), and a Zion Electric/MIDI Guitar. I used my midi guitar on several different parts of the tune...crunchy guitar/synth leads, flute, etc.... If you look at the event list for each track, you'll be able to figure out which parts are "live guitar" pretty easily....LOTS of pitch bend data .

Shavin The Bear (21K), GM

One afternoon after a few ales, we were talking about how to get even with a local black bear, who habitually raids our trash can, and a funny thought struck me that it'd be funny if someone shaved him like a French poodle, then maybe he'd be too embarrassed to come out in public, and give us a break.  I know.... ludicrous, but it was good ale.  I put this tune together that night.  Layed down the drum tracks with a progression composer, then took it into Cakewalk Pro Audio 9, redefined the percussion tracks, then layed down the rhythm and melody tracks.  Much experimentation, the tune has evolved several times since conception, most recently about 5 minutes ago <grin> I suppose I'd categorize this one as progressive rock/experimental.... you decide. Enjoy.

Halloween 1331 (37K), GM

The mesmerizing sounds of electronica spin an eerie, twisted web.  Halloween 1331 is unconventional in that is uses standard General Midi instrumentation in unusual ways to create a tense, dark feeling.  The number "1331" is actually incorporated into the scoring of the music.

Sole Heir to a Fortune (42K5), GM

This song came to me one steamy August day after a long and tiring bike ride on which I must have sung this tune a thousand times.

Follow the Truth (51K5), GM

This song was written way before Sole Heir, but its one of my best. Quite a rocking piano piece, full of riptide effects and factual errors.

Out of Time (27K), XG

Here is my first PixelArts MIDI contest submission. It is a latin/ jazz/ rock tune entitled "Out of Time". I composed it with MidiSoft Studio 4.0, without the aid of any external input devices. Format is (I believe...) Yamaha XG. I have been writing MIDIs for a while, but on a limited basis. Length is about 3mins.

Knights to Battle (35K7), GM - May 20

Composed using Cakewalk HS9, a Yamaha PSR-520 (GM) synth drums done using Jammer Hit Session (included with HS9).

Imagine two knights walking onto a field just after a rainstorm. the sun is just starting to come out, and then they charge. fantasy/rock Written with intent to loop back to measure 21.

I Smell Dead Pickles (19K), GM - May 22

I'm a 74 year old retired airline pilot.  I started flying DC-4's and DC-6's after WW2, then graduated to the 707 and finally the DC-10 before the FAA retired me almost a decade ago.  My grandkids gave me a midi keyboard for my birthday and I found this free program on the net so I could record stuff.  This is my first song.  Do you think it is too late for me?

All I've Got (22K7), XG - May 25

This is a progressive rock ballad called "All I've Got". Composed with MidiSoft Studio, it's in XG format. Just as a note, all parts of this song were entered by mouse, and no other software was used (therefore, drums are totally original- no preset patterns used at all). I realize that it is on the short side, but I think it will do.

It's All Right (66K), GM - May 31

I did all the programming by mouse using Cakewalk Sonar and use Sblive card .

EXPERIMENTAL, NEW AGE

RoadSide Rain Dance (398K5), GM

Another experiment with retrograde in Cakewalk, this one's not quite as abstract as the 1st one I sent, "moving day"... rhythmic, progressive.  Don't know how I'd categorize this one, other than progressive experimental.

The The (33K), GM

Composed in about an hour and a half using Cakewalk Pro Audio and a midi keyboard.  This piece symbolizes the polarity of the forces of nature as they act upon the imagination of man after quaffing a few Millers.
Thanks, I hope I win!

Interstellar Communication (17K6), GM - May 29

This is a rather crazy song , but I like it . Its about Aliens attacking the world ( which I know will happen one day !! ) I think it should go into the Experimental  area , but im not really sure , sir . I have been a midi writer for ten years now and I live in Bostwana , and I know that my Afrcian soul shines through on this song . Thanks your for your time .Oh yes , sir I wrote this on a Awe 32 soundcard using the famous soundfont by my American comrade Ben Dover.

Street Beat (71K), GM - May 31

Category: Its a kind of experimental track, bout i'm not sure.

Description: When I started working on this track, it had no guidelines, I didn't compose it to fit it in a particular category. I tried to compose something new, that had some kind of character to it. Hope it worked :). It might take a few listenings to get used to it. :)

Jazz Matazz (10K), GM
I sent this song into anOTHER contest about a year and a half ago, and I hope you give me a better score than I got from those jerks.  It took me four months of all my free time to do it.  It's a catchy tune that I hum to myself all the time called "Jazzmatazz".

Two Days Before Tomorrow (5K), GM - May 20

Originally, I had a full orchestration for this song, but decided to whittle it down and keep it simple with mainly violin and guitar.  I hope you like it. About me:  I'm too modest to talk about myself. My creative inspiration comes from all over though, I compose mainly soft rock and classical.

To the contest staff, I'm too bashful to send in a picture of myself.

Big City Blue (58K), GM - May 30

Category : Pop/ Blues

The song is about  the loneliness of city dwellers.
How I did it : using Cakewalk MIDI notation editor to enter the notes.
Sound Card : SoundBlaster Live!

Rocking Chair (44K), GM - May 31

It's a soft oldie but goldie style stuff, made by an SB64 Gold card and Orchestrator 3.
