CLASSICAL |
| Symphony in E minor (83K), GM - June 6 |
Attached is my entry for June 2001. Its titled "Symphony in E Minor" and composed by moi! last week. It would definitely fall under the classical category altho' how can something created last week be deemed "classical" is a mystery... |
| Op 38 mov 1, Piano Concert (45K), GM - June 9 |
Category : Classical. Thank you for listening my music. Here is the first movement, I hope you will like it ! Excuse my bad English, I speak French ;o) Equipment : Sound Blaster AWE64, Midisoft Studio 4.0 and Willow Pond Presto Arranger (Yes, it's old ;oP). Midi format 1. |
| Illusions Fantasy (57K), GM - June 13 |
| It was composed using DoReMix and Cakewalk software with SBLive and 4M soundfont hardware (better using Merlin soundfont). I am not sure if it is strictly classical, so I call it a fantasy. | |
| Hot Wax Symphony (24K8), GM - June 17 |
| -- no description -- | |
| Oboe Concerto (14K), GM - June 22 |
| Op.2 mov.1 for piano and oboe. I know that it is not a proper concerto...but it's all I could think of to call it! It's slightly abstract and slightly classical. Review it whichever way you like. Think of it as musical spaghetti :) Oh, and be merciful with the piano part. I don't play, and don't have any idea of the techniques. |
| Lonely Woman, Caprice (31K3), GM - June 23 |
| Composed using SBLive card, 4M or Merlin soundfont, mouse, patience, Cakewalk, a Pentium II 450 MHz, an old Casio keyboard, the photo of my crazy grandmother and hope. | |
CINEMATIC |

| About a Fairy (10K), GM - June 2 |
Written for a piano, a cello and a flute, this one is about a fairy, as its name explains itself... Used Sound Blaster Live! (with the 32 MB Reality soundfont) as hardware and Cakewalk 9 as software. |
| Time (53K), XG - June 2 |
This tune is an XG midi piece. (It will sound a LITTLE strange in GM) The following were used in the production of this tune: a Roland FP-8 digital piano, a Zion Electric/MIDI Guitar, GI-10/GK-2A (guitar/midi interface and pickup), Alesis SR-16 drum machine, Yamaha SW1000XG, XGedit95, and Cakewalk Pro Audio 8.04. The tune is a mixture of simple versus complex. It's my musical interpretation of time......early in life, it's so simple and structured......then it suddenly changes and becomes much more complicated and chaotic....... |
| Fanfare (4K), XG - June 7 |
| I really don't expect this to go far in the contest, at only about 1:13, but I've been messing with this composition off and on for nearly two months and thought the fanfare could stand on its own as just that - a fanfare. The rest will take at least another couple of months. I suppose it could go under either Classical or Cinematic. | |
| Ghost Ship (11K), GM - June 8 |
| Sequenced by MicroLogic, soundcard Sound Blaster 128 PCI Creative, 8 Mb. | |
| White Wastes (18K7), GM - June 11 |
Composed using CWHS 9 & Yamaha PSR520 keyboard intended to depict a cold, wasteland that is both deadly and beautiful. |
This cinematic composition is entitled "The Exodus" it is a three movement piece telling the story of the Hebrew Exodus from Egypt. The first movement is entitled "Holy Ground", the second is "The Plagues", and the third is "The Exodus". This composition took me quite a while to write, and I considered some of my best work. It was written using Sibelius Scorewriter and mixed using Cakewalk Home Studio. |

| SBLive card with customized soundfonts and Cakewalk Pro Audio 9. | |
| Creation: From the Beginning to the Present (24K), GM - June 15 |
| Written on a SB AudioPCI64 using the 2 MB wave set with reverb and spatial enhancement. Tries to tell a history of the universe, crafted out of many different traditions (greek, christian, scientific, etc.), in a mere 7.5 minutes. Begins sparse and abstract, and adds complexity and intensity towards the end. | |
| The Legend, (8K), (GM), June 15 | |
Written on a SB AudioPCI64 using the 2 MB wave set with reverb
and chorus. Inspired by Native American legends, this piece seems (to me) to depict a group huddled around a fire as the words of an epic tale waft through the air. The story develops, and culminates in drumming and dancing. |
| A Lark's Tale (37K), GM - June 17 |
| This piece was an experiment in creating a piece where the instruments interacted like characters, somewhat like Peter and the wolf. It tells the story of a day in the life of a lark. It was composed on a SB PCI 512 with a mouse. | |
| Gnome Overture (20K), GM - June 19 |
This work is built using many different music styles, but has a childish sound all the way through. |

POP - ROCK - RHYTHM |
| 1981 (75K5), GM - June 2 |
This kind of music flourished in the Australian underground scene in the 1980's, propagated by bands like The Church. I've probably put more time into this piece than anything else to date. I hope you like it. |
| Moody (52K5), GM - June 2 |
The following were used in the production of this tune: a Zion Electric/MIDI Guitar, GI-10/GK-2A (guitar/midi interface and pickup), Alesis SR-16 drum machine, a AWE64 Gold w/16 megs RAM (I used an 8meg GM sound font), and Cakewalk Pro Audio 8.04 . I used the midi guitar for every part of this tune except the drums. No keyboard was used in this piece and all the parts were done live. Midi guitar adds some really nice "feel" to the strings in this piece. I was also pleased with the "jazzy" sounding flute part. Since all the parts were done with midi guitar, I edited out much of the "pitch bend" data to clean it up. |

| I Want To Believe (15K), GM - June 4 |

| Ask Me Why (192K), GM - June 7 |
| This is a pop - ballad I just finished up .It has some ironic lyrics and is a bittersweet kind of song .Cheers! | |
| Machine Brains (83K), GM - June 8 |
Saved in midi 1 format with Cakewalk 9 software. SBLive soundcard with Cadenza soundfont bank is preferred. An old dude jumps up and puts on his worn out black leather jacket and fits his stylish shades on his eyes . A tight black clover covers his right hand. Man, is he going to put volume up to skies !! But before he takes the first strike on his axe , I can almost hear him screaming, WATCH OUT JIMMY PAGE... |

| I was watching my 2-year old granddaughter toddle around the house one day, half asleep and tired, but trying to fight it off. This song tries to capture her efforts to fight off sleep and then finally conk out. | |

It
is an XG jazz-rock piece. Maybe music for a TV crime drama? |

TECHNO - NEW AGE |
| The Compromise (350K), GM - June 15 |
| The original version of this MIDI took me about a week to compose, and resulted in a 33 minute long composition, which was far too long to enter into the MIDI competition, so I had to hone it down to a length I could submit to the contest... A compromise. The toughest part was deciding which progressions to sacrifice, and which to keep, without destroying the integrity of the original progressions. Then there was the problem of blending the remaining movements together so that they still flowed, and didn't sound like the needle skipped on your record player. New sequences had to be written to accomplish this. I spent nearly 2 more weeks re-writing what which has now evolved into something I feel is even more interesting and dynamic than the first version, yet one-third the length. Enjoy ! | |
